Google’s EMD Algo Update
By: John Elder posted in Adsense
Hello good people!
Wow! They’ve done it again. Last Friday Google announced a “minor” algo change affecting EMD’s (exact match domains).
Minutes later my thin sites took a nose dive…I mean hard. Over 90% drop in traffic and over 95% drop in income…and those numbers have remained the same since.
It’s so disappointing to see this happen AGAIN. This is the first time Google has targeted EMD’s but certainly not the first time that they’ve rolled out an update that decimated my websites.
That’s why it’s so very important to diversify the types of sites that you own. For instance right now I’m teaching Insiders how to build portal websites.
Luckily my portal websites were completely un-effected by this update because they aren’t EMD’s. Also many of my thick sites weren’t hit either because they aren’t always EMD’s.
Are you a Marketing Fool Insider yet? Like i said I would last week, I’ve removed the special 1 week $1 trial offer, but you can still sign up at the regular price for just $27 a month (with no commitment to continue past 1 month unless you want to remain a member).
This current Google nonsense is a perfect argument for joining. We’ve got to stick together!
I was about to ramp out a bunch of new thin sites to get ready for the holiday shopping season, but I’m going to put that on hold while I continue to sift through the data of this latest algo update. There’s still time if I decide to proceed, but it’s better safe than sorry.
What about you? Were your sites hit over the weekend? Comment below.
So I guess there’s nothing left to do but…KEEP ON BUILDING! (just maybe not EMD’s!)

Hi. I found you off a comment on Adsense flippers. cant agree more. we gotta wait and see how sites got affected after 1 week. 99% of my sites dropped in rankings and I havent made a penny since Friday. While I am pulling my hair out, it really sucks for me because I just started 2 months ago and just broke the $5 a day mark. And to see that tank is dissapointing.
More of a “macro niche” approach is i think what’s go nna be required. Focusing various niches into 1 site and cross promoting with another “macro niche site about a relevant macro niche. Just an intial reaction to the whole thing. I’ll be writing a blog post about it soon
Great blog you got going on here!! Just signed up to the updates!

Hey Sebastian, welcome to the site!
I think you may be right with your ‘macro niche’ approach. I’ve been teaching Insiders how to build what I call ‘portal sites’ and they sound a lot like your macro niche sites…my portal sites haven’t been effected in this EMD update as of yet.
We’ll see, only time will tell!
