What’s the Point of SEO?

Hello good people!
It’s about that time of the year again. Yep, it’s almost time to decide where I want to spend the winter! I have friends in Vegas, and I thought I might like to head out there to beat the mid-west cold….but really, 3 or 4 months in Vegas? Would I gamble away the web site?! Probably.
Then the usual suspects entered my mind…California…Florida? Politics in America seem to be turning exceedingly ugly towards those of us who make a lot of money; you know- us dirty dirty business types, and more than once in the last year I’ve thought about skipping out of the country till people wake up a bit…so I think that’s what I’d like to do this Winter. (And I promise that’s the most talk of politics you’ll ever get here!).
But I want warm…so I’m thinking the Caribbean. It’s been quite a while since I’ve lounged around on an island.
So who’s got suggestions of a nice place to spend several months in the Caribbean. I thought I may like to rent a boat and hop around the islands…but that seems like too much work. So comment below with any suggestions!
So what in the world does any of this have to do with SEO? Everything really. (Yes, I’m feeling a little lazy this morning but it DOES relate!)
SEO is about lifestyle. What other marketing medium lets you do a little work and then allows you to sit back and do nothing as the money pours in? I can spend a few days optimizing a sales letter page, tweak some things on autopilot, then spend the winter sitting on a beach while sales drop from the sky (well, drop from the search engines!).
Any ongoing work that I may have to do can be handled with my trusty laptop computer (and I recently got a new netbook, which is even SMALLER than a regular laptop…yes I’m that lazy!) and an Internet connection.
Fall is my favorite time of the year here in the Mid-West. The leaves change, and Southern Illinois has some great wine country (no, really! The Shawnee National Forest is down there and there are about a dozen nice little wineries that are awesome in the fall and worth the 5 hour drive down).
I even like the Winter for a while. Winter in Chicago is great, for about a month…then the bitter cold sets in and you just want to leave…so I do!
I’m sorry if this article doesn’t have much in the way of SEO tactics, you can find tactics in dozens of other articles I’ve written on the site. I just think that it’s important every once in a while to step back and take a look at the big picture and remember what it is we’re doing, and WHY we’re doing it.
For the last 17 years Internet Marketing has allowed me to live an amazing life, thanks in large part by the massive free traffic I drive to my various web sites via SEO.
And THAT is the point of SEO.
So where are you spending your winter? Comment below…
